Electric Outboard first in water test
This is the first test of a prototype electric outboard motor built by Inertia Labs under commission (http://www.inertia-labs.com ). The goal was to get performance comparable to that of a 25HP gas outboard. We used twin eTec electric motors, coupled with belt drives, and throttled by an AXE speed controller running both motors. We used two early versions of the ZERO motorcycle LiOn batteries at 48v in parallel.

why instead of …
why instead of worrying so much for the temp don’t design some cooling system you have the whole lake for that purpose that sealed plastic box makes nothing but worst, the batteries you have are comparable to a probably a 500cc of gasoline and those two motors are only puting out 5 or 6 hp at the peak,,,way far from the 25 you want to get to, be realistic we don’t need false profets like the GM Volt 230 MPG car.

How high is the torqe? If it is high enough you could use a larger prop with a greater pitch, ala the prop used by the Torqeedo motor.

I like internal …
I like internal combustion better as well, as long as they make it clean – the electric power comes from combustion anyway, if you think about it – the power plant.
Europe has been running diesels for years as the primary source of combustion, and they beat gas hybrids for economy and efficiency. Plus, Canada has pollution from mining the nickel for hybrid batteries.
they can make biodiesel from almost anything organic with only oxygen and water as a waste product(even from sewage).

Outstanding! Impressive performance. Can’t wait till this stuff gets more comman (and a bit more affordable). Until then, I’ll use my old fashioned 2-stroke, but I’m following stuff like this very close. I like it.
